FAQ

Below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about Carrigaline Badminton Club.

When do we meet?
As the club hall is owned by the club, different groups meet at various times during the week. Club nights are Wednesday’s from 8:00-10pm and this is the best time for new members to come along and try out the club. Home competitive matches are generally played on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

How fit do I need to be?
Fitness levels vary depending on your discipline and level. For instance, singles players need to be much fitter than doubles players as they have to cover the whole court themselves. We have members of all ages playing from juveniles to seniors with a full range of fitness levels in between. So don’t let your fitness level be a deterrent to you. Hopefully after joining you’ll see an improvement in your mobility and fitness.

How do I find the club
Directions to the club can be followed through the map. Written directions are also included on the Find Us page.

Is there an option to play socially or competitively?
Yes. We have a mix of social players who don’t play on a team, and players who play in Cork leagues and enter various badminton competitions across Cork, Munster and Ireland.

Can I try out the club before I commit to join?
Yes. Those interested in checking out our club are welcome to come along  on club nights to see how you get on before joining.

How do I join?
The membership form can be downloaded on the ‘Subscriptions’ page. Just fill out the membership form and either:

1. Hand the completed membership form with cash or cheque to a committee member on club nights (Wed from 8:30pm).

2. Send completed membership form and cheque payable to Carrigaline Badminton Club by post to the address on the form.

Do I need experience?

Experience playing badminton is not required as we have members of all abilities and new members will soon fit in with players of their own ability.

What equipment do I need?

All you need is a badminton racquet and runners and you are good to go.

How much do I have to pay for a badminton racquet?

You can pay as much or as little as your pocket allows. A racquet can be bought for as little as €30 or you can spend hundreds of Euro on a top of the range racquet. Most racquets now a-days are one piece carbon fibre. Badminton racquets can be bought at most sports shops. Inflight brand racquets and sports equipment can be purchased from Ron and Betty Thompson in the club. Ron is a qualified instructor and can advise you on the correct type of racquet for you.

How long is the season and when does it start?

Renewal of club membership is from 1st September each year after which time teams are selected for the coming season. The competitive season runs from approximately October to April but the hall is available for badminton all year round.  A copy of the 2011/2012 membership form can be downloaded here.
