Carrigaline Badminton Club Juvenile Report

 

Carrigaline Badminton Club Juvenile End of Season fun tournament took place on Saturday. The day was divided into three sessions depending on the experience level of the badminton players.

2013-beginners

 

16 of our newest members played in the morning and took part in a doubles competition with each individual amassing points in each game towards a final grand total. After many exciting games the results were totalled with the following results:

First Prizes went to: Daniel OHalloran & Amy Carroll

Second Prizes went to: Kate Holden & Eoghan O’Connell

Next up were seven of our more experienced players who had a singles and doubles competition.

Intermediate

Doubles winners: Eoin Geaney Rory Donnelly Eva O’Herlihy

Singles winners: Rory Donnelly and Zoe O’Herlihy

The final session was for our thirteen most experienced players who had singles and doubles competitions.

U13 Mixed Carrigaline vs Ladysbridge B

Carrigaline U13 mixed team got off to a flying start by beating Ladysbridge B team in the first mixed match of the season. The match begun with the three mixed pairings. The first mixed pairing of Ronan Quirke and Eadaoin Coghlan won their game in straight sets. The second mixed pairing of Frank Toebes and Danu O’Thuama lost the first set but showed great resilience to come back and take the next two sets and win their game. The third mixed pairing of Adam Barry and Rachel Walsh then won their game in straight sets. Ladysbridge won the girls doubles to keep their hopes alive, beating Danu and Rachel in straight sets. Ronan then won the boys singles in straight sets to seal the game and Eadaoin also went on to win the girls singles in a very tight game that went to three sets. The boys doubles also went to the Carrigaline pairing of Adam and Liam, resulting in an overall 6-1 victory to the home side.

Well done to Ronan, Liam, Adam, Rachel, Danu and Eadaoin!

Munster Inter-County competition

Carrigaline Badminton club were well represented on the Cork teams taking part in the Munster inter-county badminton tournament that took place in Limerick recently, with a record 12 players from the club taking part.

Congratulations to, Zoe O’Herlihy, Rory Donnelly and Misaki Parbrook from Carrigaline who played for Cork at under-11. The under-11 Cork team were narrowly beaten into runners-up spot by Kerry.

Congratulations also to Ronan Quirk, Eadaoin Coghlan, Frank Toebes and Adam Barry who put in fine performances to help the Cork U13 team to overall victory by beating Clare in the final.

At U15 Carrigaline’s Caoimhe Coghlan, Liadh Whelan and Liam Toebes played strongly to win the runners up spot, losing to a strong Clare team in the final.

Finally, well done to Andrew Dunlea and Daniel Barry who competed at U17 level for Cork, where the competition was just too strong for the Cork side.

 

U13 Division 1 – Boys

The first round of the U13 div 1 league matches were held in Bishopstown GAA on Tuesday 30th October. At this age group, representing Carrigaline were Ronan Quirke, Adam Barry and Frank Toebes. On the day they met with St Mary’s Dunmanway and Ladysbridge. Some of the matches were close and one of St Mary’s players, Brian O’Mahony, won his singles, but other than that the day went in Carrigaline’s favour.

U15 Division 1 – Girls

Carrigaline got off to a great start to the season by winning their first two matches against Ladysbridge and Knockraha. Carrigaline won both matches comfortably without dropping a set. Well done to Caoimhe coghlan , Liadh Whelan and Eadaoin Coghlan. Carrigaline will face Banteer and St. Marys in the next round of the competition in January

 

U17 Division 1

Carrigaline started off the season playing Coachford B and Dromtarriff on the 1st November in Bishopstown. Andrew Dunlea and Daniel Barry started with a singles game each against Coachford.Both won their matches in 2 sets .Rory O Herlihy then teamed up with Andrew for doubles followed by Daniel and Rory in the second doubles. Both matches were won in 2 sets.All three played very well with great teamwork involved.

Carrigaline then went on to play Dromtarriff which proved to be a lot tougher and unfortunately they lost all matches to a very strong opposition.
